Maharaja Narinder Singh Grand Room



Room Overview:

This room is named after Maharaja Narinder Singh, the son of Maharaja Karam Singh who aided the British with supplies and carriages during the first Anglo- Sikh war and the uprising of 1857 and was rewarded with additional estates in return. He was a great builder and a patron of art and literature. He fortified Patiala by constructing ramparts and the gates around the city. In 1847 he constructed the Moti Bagh Palace which has 800 rooms and a compound of 5000 acres and was once considered the largest royal residence anywhere in the world. To facilitate art he built the Sheesh Mahal (behind the Moti Bagh Palace). Darbar Hall in Qila Mubarak was also built by him.
